From our base in Widnes, OHSS supports businesses across the UK with practical, common-sense health and safety, backed by over 20 years’ experience.
Our mission is simple: to help businesses protect their people. We do this through accredited training that gives staff real skills and confidence, Fire Risk Assessments that are thorough and easy to act on, and consultancy that cuts through the jargon.
We believe health and safety should support a business, not slow it down. Wherever you are in the UK, every course, assessment and piece of advice we deliver is designed to be practical, proportionate and right for your workplace.
OHSS was founded in 2017 by Brian Claydon, a Chartered health and safety practitioner with over 20 years’ experience across construction, property maintenance, social housing, leisure and tourism, and licensed asbestos removal.
Before starting OHSS, Brian held senior health and safety roles with Styles & Wood, Knowsley Housing Trust, Evolve Facility Services, OCS Group UK and Sykes Cottages. His work there ranged from managing safety on multi-million-pound construction projects to leading company-wide safety cultures, investigating accidents, carrying out fire risk assessments and training workforces at every level.
That experience shaped how OHSS works today: a common-sense approach, no unnecessary jargon, and no paperwork that isn’t relevant to your business. What started as workplace training in Widnes has grown to include Fire Risk Assessments and full health and safety consultancy, supporting organisations right across the UK. OHSS was also proud to be named a finalist in the Halton Business Awards.
We want every business we work with, large or small, to see health and safety as something that protects their people and strengthens their business, not a box-ticking exercise.
