COURSE OVERVIEW:
The FAA Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (RQF) is designed for employees who have been identified through a first aid needs assessment as requiring emergency first aid training. This 6-hour qualification meets the requirements of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 and is regulated by Ofqual and awarded by First Aid Awards (FAA). Learners will gain the knowledge and practical competence required to deal with a wide range of workplace first aid situations.
WHAT YOU’LL LEARN:
- Understand the role and responsibilities of a first aider
- Assess an emergency situation safely and conduct a scene survey
- Provide first aid to an unresponsive casualty, including CPR and the recovery position
- Administer first aid to a casualty who is choking
- Manage casualties with external bleeding and shock
- Provide first aid for minor injuries including cuts, burns, grazes and nosebleeds

COURSE CURRICULUM:
UNIT 1 The First Aider & Emergency Assessment Objective: Equip learners with an understanding of their role and responsibilities as a first aider and how to safely assess an emergency.
Role and Responsibilities of a First Aider What a first aider is responsible for in the workplace How to minimise the risk of infection to yourself and others The need for consent before providing first aid
Assessing an Emergency How to conduct a scene survey How to conduct a primary survey of a casualty When and how to summon appropriate assistance
UNIT 2 Life-Saving First Aid Skills Objective: Develop the practical skills needed to respond to life-threatening situations including unresponsiveness, choking, bleeding and shock.
Unresponsive Casualties When and how to administer CPR on an adult (minimum 2 minutes at floor level) Placing a casualty in the recovery position and monitoring breathing Recognising and responding to a casualty experiencing a seizure
Choking Recognising when a casualty is choking How to administer first aid to a choking casualty
Bleeding and Shock Identifying life-threatening external bleeding and applying appropriate first aid Recognising the signs of shock (hypovolaemic) and how to respond
UNIT 3 Minor Injuries Objective: Give learners the knowledge to manage common minor workplace injuries confidently.
