COURSE OVERVIEW:

The FAA Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work Requalification is designed for those who currently hold, or have recently held, the FAA Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work and need to renew their qualification before it expires. This two-day course covers all the learning outcomes and assessment criteria of the full three-day course in a condensed format, ensuring first aiders remain competent and compliant with HSE requirements. The qualification is regulated by Ofqual and awarded by First Aid Awards (FAA).


WHAT YOU’LL LEARN:

  • Refresh and update your knowledge of the role and responsibilities of a workplace first aider
  • Reassess emergency situations safely, including scene and primary surveys
  • Demonstrate CPR and use of the recovery position to current Resuscitation Council UK Guidelines
  • Manage casualties with choking, external bleeding and shock
  • Recognise and respond to suspected fractures, dislocations, head and spinal injuries
  • Administer first aid for burns, eye injuries, poisoning and anaphylaxis
  • Recognise and respond to major illnesses including heart attack, stroke, asthma and epilepsy

COURSE CURRICULUM:

UNIT 1 Emergency First Aid Refresher Objective: Refresh learners’ core emergency first aid skills and ensure they meet current Resuscitation Council UK Guidelines.

Role and Responsibilities of a First Aider Refreshing the duties and responsibilities of a workplace first aider Minimising the risk of infection to yourself and others Consent before providing first aid

Assessing an Emergency Scene survey and primary survey of a casualty When and how to summon appropriate assistance

Unresponsive Casualties CPR on an adult (minimum 2 minutes at floor level) Placing a casualty in the recovery position and monitoring breathing Responding to a casualty experiencing a seizure

Choking, Bleeding and Shock Managing a choking casualty Identifying and treating life-threatening external bleeding Recognising and responding to shock

Minor Injuries First aid for cuts, grazes, bruises, splinters and nosebleeds Managing minor burns and scalds


UNIT 2 Recognition and Management of Illness and Injury Refresher Objective: Refresh learners’ ability to recognise, assess and manage a wider range of injuries and medical conditions in the workplace.

Secondary Survey Gathering a casualty history Conducting a head to toe survey

Injuries to Bones, Muscles and Joints Recognising fractures, dislocations, sprains and strains First aid for bone and joint injuries Applying a support sling and an elevated sling

Head, Spinal and Chest Injuries Recognising and managing suspected head injuries First aid for a casualty with a suspected spinal injury Managing suspected fractured ribs and penetrating chest injuries

Burns, Scalds and Eye Injuries Recognising the severity of burns and scalds First aid for burns involving dry/wet heat, chemicals and electricity Managing eye injuries involving dust, chemicals and embedded objects

Poisoning and Anaphylaxis How poisonous substances can enter the body First aid for suspected sudden poisoning Recognising anaphylaxis and use of a training adrenaline auto-injector

Major Illness Recognising and responding to heart attack, stroke, epileptic seizure, asthma attack and hypoglycaemic emergency


IMPORTANT — ELIGIBILITY:

  • Learners whose FAW qualification is in date or expired by no more than 1 month can attend this 2-day requalification course.
  • Learners whose FAW qualification is expired by more than 3 months must attend the full 3-day First Aid at Work course.
  • Learners must provide evidence of their current or previous FAW qualification before starting the course.
